Sinopsis

This book unravels the role of Point-of-Care (POC) glucose monitoring as an essential part of diabetes management. It provides the reader with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of diabetes management, including:

theneedfor POC glucosemonitoring
theglucosedetectiontechnologies (invasive, noninvasive and continuous) beingused in the POC devices
theanalytical performance, characteristics, pros and cons of the POC devicesdeveloped to date
theimportance and role of glycatedhemoglobin (HbA1c) monitoringfor diabetes management
thevarious POC devices and analyzersforthedetermination of HbA1c.

This is the first book to provide complete up-to-date information on POC glucose detection technologies and devices for diabetic monitoring and management. It will be an important reference for healthcare professionals, biomedical engineers, researchers, economists and policy makers. This book also serves as an asset and teaching aid for professionals and researchers in diabetic monitoring and management.

Features

The only book to provide complete up-to-date information on POC glucose detection technologies and devices for diabetic monitoring and management
Presents the analytical performance, advantages, limitations, and characteristic features of glucose sensing technologies and commercial POC devices.
Discusses the emerging role of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), an indicator of the long-term average of blood glucose.
Empowers diabetics, as well as general population, to take care of their health, exploring smart wearable mobile healthcare devices and smartphone-based device for POC glucose monitoring.
